Magda Dumitrescu is an artist based in Chicago, Illinois.

Magda Dumitrescu is from Atlanta, and won’t let you forget it. Their research focuses on the intersection of accessibility, art as a tool for communication, and climate action. Their art also explores adapting to chronic illness and disability, focusing on adapting one day at a time.They primarily work and research Backyard Surrealism- both building solace within and exploring tiny overlooked magic of day to day life, referencing old Southern folklore and spending time sitting around with family on the porch.

They use folklore traditions they grew up with in the American South as a framework to explore the plasticity of time and memory. As the climate crisis is drastically changing our everyday environment, they use art and anthropological research as a way to document the present and imagine possibilities of a more equitable future. Dumitrescu is interested in how we carry our homes in tangible and non-tangible structures. Their practice includes drawing, painting, collage, murals, animation, installation, photography, and illustration.

Dumitrescu graduated from Georgia State University with a BA in Studio Art (Magna Cum Laude) and a BA in Anthropology (Magna Cum Laude), then went to the University of Illinois Chicago for Museum Studies graduate program to get their MA (Magna Cum Laude).
